MIKOUMOU VILLAGE

At the heart of Akanda, MIKOUMOU Village is a unique social model, the first platform where Gabonese Traditional Medicine and Modern Science unite in a holistic approach to healing. We are a community, a clinic, and a school (Escout) dedicated to the transmission of Bwiti wisdom and the awakening of consciousness.

THE VILLAGE & OUR AUTHENTICITY

We are proud to be a place where the secular wisdom of Gabon works in concert with the necessities of innovation. Our goal is to prove that traditional medicine, far from being a relic, is a vital resource for the health of tomorrow.

MIKOUMOU Village was conceived as a response to the segmentation of the human being. Our vision is to restore the balance of the individual through a holistic approach. We do not just treat symptoms; we treat the soul as a whole, drawing upon ancestral wisdom.

The village aims to be a socio-educational center and an innovative social model. It seeks to train youth in traditional health practices and life sciences, and serves as an arbitration platform for conflicts.

We also have a mission to safeguard and transmit ancestral culture, notably through the Traditional Escout of Gabon, which teaches life sciences, the knowledge of fauna, flora, and wildlife.

Our Philosophy: The Unity of Body, Mind, and Nature

Bwiti is the ancestral philosophical and spiritual system that frames the sacred use of Iboga in Gabon. More than a religion, it is a complete school of life, structuring the society and thought of many peoples in the region.

LE BWITI: THE SCHOOL

OF LIFE

The Bwiti and the Role of Initiation

Bwiti Initiation is the central rite of passage for accessing profound philosophical knowledge. It is not a simple ceremony, but a process of spiritual rebirth by which the individual learns the laws of the universe and their place in the lineage of ancestors.

The Purpose of the Rite: Initiation serves to structure identity, confront one's fears, and receive teachings that will guide the individual throughout their life.

The Use of Iboga: Iboga is the sacred mediator used by the initiates to facilitate this transition and access to knowledge.

The Philosophical Pillar

The Quest for Meaning

Bwiti offers a complete framework for understanding existence. It is a philosophy that invites the individual to deep introspection and the search for inner truth. It teaches that every human being has a unique role and is connected to the ancestors and the cosmos. At MIKOUMOU, this is reflected in the sessions of Counselling and Spiritual Pedagogy.

The Ancestral Connection

The Heritage

Bwiti is a cult rendered to the ancestors. It maintains the link between the past and the present, believing that the ancestors are guides and protectors. The goal is to restore the balance of the clan and the individual. Our founder, Moutema Mouhetou, as a descendant of Ngangas, is the guardian of this heritage.

The Role of Iboga

The Sacred Mediator

Within the framework of Bwiti, Iboga is not an end in itself, but a Sacred Mediator used by initiates to facilitate access to knowledge. It is the tool that allows one to "see" beyond the material world, confront the deep causes of distress, and accelerate spiritual healing.

Community Ethics

Bwiti is a pillar of social cohesion. It teaches values of respect, sharing, and responsibility towards the community. The role of arbitration of MIKOUMOU Village for neighborhood conflicts is a direct manifestation of this Bwiti ethic applied to the modern world.

Yvon Moussirou, known in the tradition as the Kombo "Moutema Mouhetou", is the spiritual guardian and the founder of MIKOUMOU Village.

As a descendant of Ngangas (spiritual authorities and healers), "Moutema Mouhetou" embodies the authentic lineage of the Gabonese tradition. He is the architect of our philosophy of fusion, capable of translating ancestral Bwiti knowledge into a language and framework understandable by the modern world. His authority guarantees the integrity and authenticity of every treatment and every initiatory rite conducted within the village.

He represents the bridge between ancestral tradition and the contemporary world, possessing a deep knowledge of traditional medicine while being capable of dialoguing with modern science.

Iboga (Tabernanthe iboga) is the pillar of our spirituality. This "Sacred Wood" is used at MIKOUMOU according to a strictly traditional and authentic protocol to facilitate deep introspection, the healing of traumas, and the restoration of spiritual connection. We commit to using Iboga only with total respect for its sacred role, as a tool of light and truth.

THE TRADITIONAL ESCOUT

"Awakening, Ecology, and Transmission"

The Traditional Escout of Gabon is not a simple school; it is an integral concept of transmitting wisdom and African Ecology. Our mission is to ensure the perennity of our heritage and awaken consciences to the vital link between Humanity and Nature.

Open to All: Whether you are a seeker of truth, a non-initiate curious person, or a cultural tourist, the Escout opens its doors to you for a sharing based on respect, wisdom, and knowledge.

The principle is to share wisdom and knowledge without compromising the integrity of secret rituals (only secrets strictly related to initiations are not disclosed).

   Ecology and Life Sciences Pole

Teaching is rooted in nature and popular wisdom :

  • Ecology and Wildlife: A major focus on Ecology, the study of Fauna, Flora, and local Wildlife. The Escout teaches life sciences and knowledge of the environment, notably the identification and use of the first necessity plants (medicinal or utilitarian plants)..

  • Exploration and Terrain: Organization of Hikes and Forest Walks for a practical immersion in the natural environment and the application of ecological knowledge.

    Wisdom and Culture Pole

Learning is done through experience and gathering :

  • Cultural Vigils: The heart of the Escout are the Vigils around the fire. These nightly gatherings are dedicated to storytelling (oral transmission), counselling (wisdom), and discussions, creating a convivial space for sharing.

  • Oral and Social Transmission: Sharing of proverbs and advice on community life and social relationships (such as marriage), cultivating wisdom and knowledge.

  • Pedagogy and Debates: Organization of pedagogy sessions on Gabonese spirituality and human debates on varied themes.

Holistic Healing: Iboga Serving Your Well-being

Our approach to healing is twofold: spiritual and medical. We are an authentic care center, focused on the restoration of balance.

The Traditional Medical Clinic (Secure Supervision)

MIKOUMOU Village operates as a Traditional Medical Clinic where patient safety is paramount. Our services are supervised by traditional practitioners under the authority of the spiritual guide Moutema Mouhetou :

  • Consultation & Guidance: Holistic evaluation of your physical, emotional, and spiritual situation.

  • Traditional Care/Therapy: Targeted treatments, rituals of purification and healing.

  • Protection: Rites aimed at strengthening personal energy and spiritual protection

Iboga: A Powerful Therapeutic Tool

Iboga, our "Sacred Wood," is not used at MIKOUMOU Village as a simple remedy, but as a gateway to holistic healing and deep introspection. Under the authority of our spiritual guide and the supervision of our Traditional Clinic, we use this gift of the forest in authentic protocols to address the challenges of the soul and the body.

1. Addictions and Withdrawal (The Reset)

Iboga is globally recognized for its action on the nervous system, offering a powerful potential for biological and psychological reset.

  • Biological Action: It acts on neuronal receptors, helping to quickly break the cycle of dependence and minimize physical withdrawal symptoms.

  • Targeted Addictions: We assist those seeking to break free from dependencies on opioids (with secure protocol), alcohol, tobacco, and synthetic drugs.

  • The MIKOUMOU Approach: Unlike segmented therapies, our approach combines physical detoxification with spiritual work. Iboga facilitates an introspection that allows the individual to confront the deep cause of the addiction.

2. Psycho-Emotional Disorders (Healing of the Soul)

The Sacred Wood is a powerful catalyst for emotional and psychological healing. It acts as a mirror, allowing us to access buried inner truths..

  • Depression and Anxiety: The Iboga experience can create a significant emotional opening, helping to unblock persistent negative mental patterns and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety linked to them.

  • Traumas and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder): Used in a secure setting, it helps to revisit traumatic events with a new perspective and emotional distance, facilitating resolution and liberation.

  • Burn-out and Exhaustion: For those suffering from chronic exhaustion, it acts as a powerful "reboot" of the psychic and spiritual system, restoring energy and clarity.

3. Spiritual Healing and Quest for Meaning (The Awakening of Consciousness)

This is the most sacred mission of Iboga: to reestablish the connection between the individual and their life path.

  • Deep Introspection: Iboga induces a state of consciousness that allows for introspection without filter, fostering the resolution of internal conflicts and alignment with one's higher self.

  • Restoration of Energetic Balance: The traditional ceremony aims to cleanse and restore vital energy, essential for good holistic health.

  • Quest for Meaning and Mission: For those seeking clarity, Iboga is a powerful guide towards the discovery of one's life mission and the establishment of a spiritual direction.

4.Protocol, Security, and Integration (The Professional Commitment)

Security is non-negotiable, especially for such a powerful therapeutic tool. Our approach integrates the best practices of tradition and modern supervision:

  • Preliminary Evaluation: Every request for a therapeutic retreat is subject to a rigorous medical and psychological evaluation to determine the participant's eligibility and safety.

  • Specialized Accompaniment: The administration of Iboga is always supervised by the Spiritual Guide Moutema Mouhetou and supported by the practitioners of our Traditional Clinic.

  • Post-Stay Integration: Healing continues after the ceremony. We offer guidance and counselling tools to help the individual integrate the revelations of Iboga into their daily life and ensure lasting transformation.

"After years of carrying the weight of an old trauma, traditional treatments and the guidance of Iboga allowed me to 'revisit' my story without pain, but with compassion. The healing at MIKOUMOU is profound. I am infinitely grateful for this emotional liberation."

"Coming to Gabon was an adventure. Participating in the vigils and forest walks of the Escout was a revelation. I learned more about ecology and plants in one week than in years of study. The hospitality and wisdom of the storytellers around the fire are invaluable. A cultural immersion that every traveler should experience."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How can I get to MIKOUMOU Village? Is it complicated?

MIKOUMOU Village is located in Akanda, near Libreville (Gabon). Access is organized. Once your request for a stay is accepted, our team will provide you with detailed instructions on how to get to the village, including transport options from the airport or main arrival points. We accompany you to simplify your journey.

Do I need a visa for Gabon? Can you help me with the procedures?

While we cannot obtain a visa for you, we can provide you with an official letter of invitation or necessary supporting information for your visa application, once your stay is confirmed. We advise you to check the specific requirements with the Gabonese embassy in your country.

What type of accommodation do you offer? Is it comfortable for a foreigner?

We offer accommodations that combine authenticity and modern comfort. You can stay in traditional huts or in reception structures designed for well-being, in a peaceful natural setting. The goal is immersion while ensuring your comfort.

Are the food and water safe for foreigners?

Yes. We use treated drinking water and prepare savory local cuisine with fresh products. We are attentive to the needs of our guests and can adapt meals if you have specific dietary restrictions (please inform us during your request).

Is it safe for a woman traveling alone, or for people unfamiliar with Africa?

Safety is our priority. MIKOUMOU Village is a peaceful and respectful place. You will be welcomed by our community and benefit from attentive supervision throughout your stay, ensuring your well-being and peace of mind.

I have questions about Iboga and its use, particularly concerning the risks. Can you enlighten me?

We understand these concerns. Iboga is used at MIKOUMOU in a secure setting and strictly supervised by our spiritual guide and our clinic. Before any experience, a medical and psychological evaluation is carried out. We explain the protocol, potential benefits, and safety measures in detail to ensure a transformative and safe experience.

I am taking medication or have pre-existing medical conditions. Is this a problem?

It is essential to inform us of any pre-existing medical condition or ongoing medication from your very first request for a stay. This allows us to evaluate your eligibility safely and to adapt our approach, if necessary, to guarantee your well-being.

Do I need to speak French or a local language to understand?

Although French is the administrative language and often spoken by the team, we do our best to communicate with our international guests. For spiritual elements and initiations, transmission often occurs through experiences that transcend language. We can also arrange for key elements to be explained in a language you master, if possible.

What makes MIKOUMOU Village different from other Iboga centers or spiritual retreats?

Our authenticity is rooted in the direct lineage of our founder, Moutema Mouhetou, and in our social and ecological mission. We do not just offer Iboga retreats, but a complete immersion in the Traditional Escout of Gabon (ecology, culture) and a clinic dedicated to holistic health, all done with respect for tradition and responsible innovation.

What kind of transformation can I expect to experience at MIKOUMOU?

MIKOUMOU offers an opportunity for deep introspection and healing. Visitors often report a better connection to themselves, a liberation from emotional blockages or addictions, a regaining of vital energy, and a clarification of their life mission. The results are personal and vary, but the experience is described as transformative.

How much should I plan for a stay? Are the fees all-inclusive?

We request a Support Contribution (Contribution de Soutien) for our services and stays (rather than "fees" or "prices"). This amount covers accommodation, food, Escout activities, and personalized care/initiation protocols. It is not a fixed price: the final amount will be communicated to you after our team has evaluated the exact duration and nature of the protocol you need. The contribution aims to support the social and ecological mission of the village.

Will my experience be simple observation or true immersion?

Your stay is designed to be total immersion. You will not be a simple spectator. You are invited to actively participate in the Vigils, the Escout Hikes (Randonnées), the Debates, and community life. The goal is for you to live the Gabonese tradition from within, as a temporary member of the community, for a transformative experience.
